The Police opened the letter, which the

gave any clue to a plot. The letter was to a relative

in Canton. It dealt with many domestic details dow

to the recent sale of a pig, and concluded with these

words:- Yesterday my lodger fired a pistol at the

Governor of Hongkong and most unfortunately missed
